The Gambian Amputee Rehabilitation Appeal

Welcome to The Gambian Amputee Rehabilitation Appeal homepage, a portal to provide updates on funding and progress of the project, highlighting its successes, difficulties and resolutions over its two year period.

The Gambian Amputee Rehabilitation Appeal aims to address the profound lack of physical and social rehabilitation for amputees in The Gambia.

Provision Of Prosthetic Legs

We will provide components to create prosthetic legs for service users as well as parts for maintenance and repairs for current service users.

Physical Rehabilitation

Our community rehabilitation officer will provide instruction on proper stump care, assistance with any prosthetic repair as well as being a point of contact in the case of immediate prosthetic leg related issues.

Many new and existing amputees go unrecorded by health services and are unaware of the possibility of a prosthetic leg. is developing a phone based application to account for amputees in The Gambia. The app, which will be used by our rehabilitation team, will provide invaluable data that will help shape the future of Legs4Africa and its future projects.

Building Community

The Gambian Amputee Association, provides advice, support and a platform from which its members can have a voice and an ability to speak up for amputees in the country. Each service user is strongly encouraged to join the association that meets once a month and has proved to be a source of support, advice and helps to improve individuals outlook and understanding of their physical disability.

This project forms a major aspect of Legs4Africa’s objective of providing the physical and psychological relief from issues arising from immobility due to leg amputation. On behalf of the many amputees in The Gambia that this appeal will help, thank you for your support. We hope that you enjoy this portal which will show just what your donation is allowing us to achieve.
