In September 2020 Esther, Jamie, Juliette and Rachael jumped on board and became our Grants and Trusts research team! Since then they have been working tirelessly to find new funding opportunities for Legs4Africa. So, it’s about time we introduced them…

What’s your name?
My full name is Esther Afikiruweh.

Who are you in 3 words?
Energetic, humorous and friendly. 

Why did you want to join Team Legs?
I wanted to join Team Legs for its great cause, helping people to walk again and its positive environmental and social impact.

What are you excited to learn about?
I am excited to learn the ways in which I can support Legs4Africa access funds with my volunteering. I am also interested in the ways Legs4Africa has been helping lives both in Africa and in the UK.

What’s your favourite biscuit?
My favourite biscuit is the Choco Leibniz Cookies 😛

Dedicated, curious, positive.

Why did you want to join Team Legs?
It’s great to see a charity that makes such a tangible difference to people’s lives, both physically and mentally. I’m very excited to be a part of Team Legs given the opportunity to support the charity’s work and develop my own skills. 

What are you excited to learn about?
 I am excited to learn more about the ways in which NGO’s generate funds, and contribute to this process.

What’s your favourite biscuit?
Any biscuit dunked in tea.

Globetrotter, generous, passionate

Why did you want to join Team Legs?
I wanted to get involved in a charity that makes a real difference at the individual level, I also feel passionate about the environment and climate change. Legs4Africa gave me an opportunity to both help empower people and participate in a sustainable project!

What are you excited to learn about?
I am excited to learn about how Legs4Africa connects with local people, emotional rehabilitation and how receiving a leg has empowered them.

What’s your favourite biscuit?
Ginger nut with tons of cinnamon.

Who are you in 3 words?
Creative, talkative, neat-freak.

Why did you want to join Team Legs?
I wanted to join Team Legs because not only do the charity help so many people in need in Africa by re-purposing prosthetic legs, but they also help the environment by stopping these from ending up in landfills. Win-win! 

What are you excited to learn about?
I am excited to learn not only about the physical support that is given to empower amputees in Africa, but also the psychological support available, such as the Emotional Rehabilitation Groups.

What’s your favourite biscuit?
The Empire biscuit.
