Unveiling the genius behind our frogs and sandwiches – Ella Kasperowicz!

Evie DickinsonArt, Leg News

Earlier this year we advertised for volunteer campaign artists in lots of trendy places around Bristol. Luckily all the blue-tacking posters on walls paid off and we attracted Ella, who stumbled across us through an Instagram post from Bzzaar.

Ella received her illustration licence from Falmouth University in 2017 and loves playing with pens, words and ideas. She is the author and illustrator of ‘#Squad Goals: The Friendship Book’, published in July 2018 and one third of ‘SPUD’ collaborative – a trio in a long distance illustrationship making work together about food and travel.

She was kind enough to pop down to see us in our Bristol office where we mainly spoke about her job as a vegetarian butcher and how she hailed from the same town as Shane Meadows and Adam Peaty, but we did also mention our slightly obscure campaign idea that focused on a classic and indisputably delicious British sandwich and a controversial chocolate bar. We knew we’d found our artist when she responded with nothing but enthusiasm.

Within a few weeks our words had come to life and our mate Fred was forming a froggy pyramid and holding up a sign in support of our campaign.

Through her fabulous penwork Ella has already helped us to raise over £600 which will rise to over £1,000 within a year (because of the monthly donations that will come in). £1,000 is enough to get 25 people all the way through the process; from their leg fitting, through rehabilitation and back on their feet again.

Through the power of art, Ella has got 25 people walking again in Africa.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with someone who is so full-of-talent, so full-of-beans and so full-of-heart. We know the campaign would not have been such a success without you Ella and we think you are even better than Adam Peaty.

We’re already looking forward to brewing up some more bizarre creations with Ella once she’s back from her travels  but if you can’t wait to set your eyes on her material again you can find her website here or buy her postcards in real life in Alex Does Coffee – the caffeine station within Two’s Company Studios, Bristol
